Tatooine was a desert world in a binary star system in the Arkanis Sector of the Outer Rim Territories. It was inhabited by poor locals who mostly farmed moisture for a living. Other activities included used equipment retailing and scrap dealing. The planet was on the 5709-DC Shipping Lane, a spur of the Triellus Trade Route, which itself connected to the Sisar Run. The planet was not far from the Corellian Run. It had its own navigation system. However, it would still play a role in galactic events, serving as the home of Anakin Skywalker. It was here that Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn recognized Anakin's potential to become a Jedi and where he introduced him to Obi-Wan Kenobi, his future master and mentor. Tatooine was also the home of Anakin's son, Luke, where he lived until his early adulthood. The planet has built up a very bad reputation, often being viewed as the cesspool of the galaxy for the large amount of crime on it.
Role in LotJ
A desert world, it is home to the indigenous tribal societies of the Jawa and Tusken peoples. It was first discovered by Outworlders belonging to the Czerka Corporation in 40 AHW, where they founded an company only settlement of Anchorhead. A short time later, as mining profits began pouring in, and the need for additional workers increased, Czerka founded additional settlements, such as Mos Eisley and Mos Espa, with these extra workers came the demand for services and the world opened up to the galaxy. When the leadership of Czerka passed to Nikko Sarrath, the organisation implemented expansionist policies and began production of a secret droid army. Using Tatooine as the basis of a public facade, the world suffered multiple attacks by the Republic causing the world to be all but abandoned by Czerkan personnel, though they remained in control of the world in name only. Upon the Republics defeat, the planet became a Military Outpost, primarily staffed by the remaining Czerkan droids, until the Kaminoan Clone Army under the command of the Sith turned on their former allies. Swiftly the planets droid population were disassembled and the Outpost, Czerka's former Headquarters were razed to the ground. With more pressing concerns and the need for every soldier, the planet was left behind and descended into total lawlessness, a state that has remained to this present day.
